In 2003 a life-changing event caused me to rethink my career goals. Although my personal life was the catalyst for the change, it was a timely gift.
I have understood from a young age that it is what's on the inside that counts. I was increasingly discouraged at the focus which was being put on the "aesthetics" of fitness as well as people's fitness goals. I feel that fitness is for everyone and we are not all created equal. I longed to show anyone who was interested that we are each as individual as our thumbprint and embrace our most unique and beautiful selves. I knew then, as I know now, that this is a message that I can deliver.
My interest in Pilates was inspired through my long-time friend, Lisa Sabato, who I have known since I was four years old and to whom I am still connected. I believe that although this is my bio - Lisa belongs in it. If it weren't for her I would not have pursued Pilates. Lisa and I share a love of exploring new ideas, and sharing our finds with anyone who will listen!
What I have always known and what was truly clear from the very beginning of my career as a Fitness Professional is that "nobody owns the work". That is a statement that I stand by. Although Joseph and Clara Pilates revolutionized a training method which became their namesake, even Joe continued to research, train, and develop his theory continually throughout his life. With the practice of Pilates, either alone or in conjunction with other training methods, all things are possible. It is important to be open to change and growth.
I work with all different types of people: some of whom are already fit, some who have never exercised before, people at all different levels of fitness, survivors of all types of illnesses, injuries, and/or cancer, and athletes training for a sport-specific activity. I will work with anyone who wants to work with me. I have dedicated these last ten years to helping people realize their own physical potential. There is great joy in transforming clients' 'ideas' of being healthy into a mental and physical reality. The mind-body connection is strong and powerful and we all have the ability to experience it.
My mission has been and will continue to be sharing my ability to help people experience the power within themselves as they begin their journey to a more fit and healthy lifestyle.
